  • Gold Star Peak Dedication to      Honor Fallen Soldiers: Lakeview Commons/El Dorado Beach 11:00 AM. The public      is invited to a ceremony Sept. 6 to dedicate Gold Star Peak in honor of      three Lake Tahoe-area soldiers who died in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan.      Ceremony will include the unveiling of a bronze memorial plaque. The      previously unnamed peak, visible across the lake on the north shore      between Mount Watson and Martis Peak, has been named for the Gold Star      lapel pin established in 1947 to identify the families of service members      killed in combat. Speakers at the ceremony will include Rep. Tom      McClintock, R-Elk Grove, Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit Forest      Supervisor Nancy Gibson and South Lake Tahoe Mayor Tom Davis.   • Tahoe Geotourism Expo 2013: Lakeview Commons at El Dorado      Beach. Geotour activities include; paddle board yoga, kayak tours,      wildlife viewing, Washoe cultural ceremonies, water science demos,      heritage hikes and much more.   • Free Fishing Day in California:      The      California Department of Fish and Wildlife is waving the fishing license      requirement on Sept. 7. This is one of two free fishing days the      department sponsors each year. Size and number limits remain, thought.      Angler must have an appropriate report card if they are fishing for      abalone, steelhead or sturgeon anywhere in the state, or for salmon in the      Smith and Klamath-Trinity river systems. www.dfg.ca.gov/licensing/fishing/freefishdays.html
  • Marsh to Meadow Track – Tahoe      Expo: Meet      at Kayak Tahoe – Timber Cove Marina. 8:30 AM. Uncover the magic and      mystery of marsh and meadows. Back by popular demand! This Adventure Track      based in South Lake Tahoe will increase your understanding and connection      to these unique ecosystems that filter water, support vegetation and      wildlife.   • Al Tahoe Heritage Hike – Tahoe      GeoTourism Expo: Al      Tahoe Area of South Lake Tahoe. 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Uncover the roads      once traveled that carved the routes you take today. Walk back to 1859      when a judge, a vision and a twisted turn of events created original      pioneer settlement that became the City of South Lake Tahoe you see today.      You will walk by the Old County jail, see and understand purpose of the 59      Mile Marker, understand what Rojo’s was before it was Rojos, observe the      Al Tahoe Cemetery, see the oldest building standing from the town of Rowlands,      walk on the Lincoln Highway, learn the name sake of Regan Beach was and      many other historical landmarks in Al Tahoe.   • Forest Health and Play – Tahoe      Expo: Meet      at Explore Tahoe. 9:00 am to 3:30pm. Follow clues and mysteries into the      Tahoe forest! Ever wonder how a state line divided a lake?
