The Lake Tahoe Basin is under the jurisdiction
of four different counties within two different states!
So, in order to make things as crystal clear as the lake, we have
noted the county and state boundaries on the Lake Tahoe map below.
In addition, we have noted the locations of the four County Recorder
Clerk's Offices.
We have color coded the areas of the map so that you can easily determine
which County Recorder Clerk's Office to visit to obtain your marriage
license.
Yes, there is an exception to the boundaries. The city of Tahoma on

MAKING
YOUR MARRIAGE LEGAL
If your are interested in getting married at
Lake Tahoe, you will need a Marriage License or a Certificate of Confidential
Marriage.
California and Nevada issue a standard public Marriage License that
may be used anywhere in the state in which it was issued. Additionally,
California offers the option of a Certificate of Confidential Marriage
that must be issued and used in the county in which it was issued.
Once you choose a location for your marriage ceremony, you will need
to determine the correct County Recorder Clerk's Office to contact
and visit to obtain a license.
This can be easily accomplished by going to the Lake Tahoe map towards
the top of this page and noting the color of the map at the location
you have chosen for your marriage ceremony.
Match the color of the map at your chosen location to one of the four
County Recorder Clerk's Offices listed below. That office will have
jurisdiction over your marriage ceremony. Review the requirements
for the type of marriage license you prefer and plan accordingly.
