There are about the same number of Lake Tahoe golf courses
as there are Tahoe ski resorts. During the winter, a fan
of both sports can golf and ski on the same day!
During snowy winter months, some Lake Tahoe golf courses close
for the season, others transform into snowmobiling areas and
a few that receive very little snowfall stay open year-round.
During the rest of the year, expect pleasant weather and plenty
of sunshine!
Many of the golf courses around Lake Tahoe are 6,000+ feet
above sea level. Because of the high elevation you will get
an extra 6 to 10 percent more distance than at sea level.
A good rule is thumb is to hit one club less than you would
at home. When playing on golf courses that are close to the
lake, prevailing winds can come in and make for some difficult
club selection on some holes.
The playing season varies from course to course. All of Tahoe's
golf courses will be happy to send you a brochure and a fact
sheet or answer phone inquiries about the course, rates, weather
and special events.

Lake Tahoe has to offer by scrolling down.

The Course
In 1896, the Park family, still the current owners, purchased
Friday's Station and the surrounding ranch land. In the mid
1960s Brooks Park had the vision to create a world-class golf
course on his ranch land. Renowned for such courses as Seminole
and Butler National Golf Course, architect George Fazio was
hired and the lakeside course opened for play in the spring
of 1969. George's nephew, Tom Fazio, had just graduated college
and apprenticed with his uncle for the first time at Edgewood
Tahoe.
Tom Fazio went on to build his own outstanding reputation
with courses such as Shadow Creek. Tom Fazio has been refining
Edgewood Tahoe for the last several years, with the sizable
renovations completed for the 1998 season.
Restaurants
The clubhouse has an elegant lobby & bar
area and a restaurant. The Edgewood Restaurant overlooks Lake
Tahoe and offers superb cuisine and facilities for large and
small banquets. Call 775-588-2787.

OLD
BROCKWAY GOLF COURSE
7900 North Lake Blvd.
Kings Beach
Main Number

The Course
This North Lake Tahoe golf course was built in 1924 by Harry
Comstock as a recreational amenity for his celebrity friends
and his socialite guests at the Brockway Hotel. Comstock and
his business partner, Robert O. Sherman, hired renowned Scottish
architect John Duncan Dunn in 1922. Dunn was one of the premier
golf course architects of his era. He designed and built many
famous golf courses in his day, one being Shinnecock Hill,
New York, the site of the 1995 U.S. Open.
Old Brockway meanders through towering Jeffrey pines with
views of majestic mountains and Lake Tahoe. The tight fairways
and the postage stamp greens are reminiscent of golf in an
era gone by. The charm and character of the old Brockway remains
the same today, much as it did in the 1920s and 1930s. In
1934, Old Brockway was the home of the first Bing Crosby Golf
Tournament.

RESORT AT SQUAW CREEK
CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF COURSE
400 Squaw Creek Road
Olympic Valley
Main Numbers
800-327-3353
530-583-6300
ext. 6637
The Course
This course is a "links-style" course
designed by golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. The
tees, landing areas and greens are carefully placed in order
to preserve its existing wetlands and forested hillside setting.
Robert Trent Jones Jr. describes Squaw Creek as worthy for
all those who play it . . . "A challenging and fun course,
with an elevation of approximately 6,000 feet above sea level,
accuracy, not length, will be at a premium. This course will
emphasize a player's ability to properly determine the amount
of risk to wager with each shotmaking decision, and then execute
the appropriate shot accordingly."
Indeed, the extensive planning and careful handling of the
environment gives Squaw Creek the unique character of a natural
golf course that blends with the majestic surrounding mountains.
Special Events
Squaw Creek is the host of the amateur event, Tournament of
Champions, held the first weekend of October. All northern
California club champions qualify. Squaw Creek's professional
golf staff will assist you in organizing any type of competition
you desire, including Scramble, Best Ball, Callaway and others.
Restaurants
Cascades serves buffet-style breakfast and dinner on Fridays
and Saturdays. Sweet Potatoes Deli serves breakfast, lunch
and dinner. Ristorante Montagna and Bullwhackers Pub serve
lunch and dinner. And Glissandi serves dinner.

THE GOLF CLUB AT GENOA LAKES
One Genoa Lakes Drive
Genoa

Main
Number
775-782-4653
The Course
In 1993, golf course architect
John Harbottle III and PGA Tour Pro Peter Jacobsen designed
18 holes at the foot of the Sierra just east of Lake Tahoe.
Their links-style creation blended championship play with
spectacular scenery. The Golf Club at Genoa Lakes offers
a back nine that's tougher than the front, water on 15 holes,
and Augusta-style, white sand bunkers. With four sets of
tees, the par-72 course stretches from 5,085 to 7,358 yards
and welcomes all levels of play.
Restaurants
In 2001, the semi-private
course was re-created in shades of private club luxury
with a multi-million dollar renovation. Pleasing your
palette with many flavors, Genoa Lakes offers authentic
Italian fine dining at Antoci's Supper Club. For a more
casual menu, The Sports Club 19th hole offers anything
from lunch to cocktails overlooking the signature 18th
hole. A quick lunch, snack, soft drink, or beer can be
ordered at the 9th tee gazebo and picked up at the turn
from the Snack Club. For more information on Genoa Lakes,
call (775)782-4653.
